In late July, I met Chelsa and Jonathan at Khimaira Farm in Luray — where they got married three years ago! — for a sunset maternity portrait session. This was my first visit to Khimaira, though I’ve heard of it many times, and Linda the owner could not have been more welcoming. When I arrived she was unpacking candles for the next day’s wedding, but she hopped up to give me a tour and point me toward all the photographer hotspots. What makes Khimaira unique, aside from being a goat farm and wedding venue, is the range of scenery. Toward the back lies the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah National Park, at the entrance is a lovely wall of ivy, and at sunset the horse fields and hay barn are washed in golden light.
As we walked all over the farm taking photos, it was fun to hear Chelsa and Jonathan point out where they had their ceremony and took all of their wedding photos. And I thought it was especially sweet to relive those memories as they wait for their little one to arrive. I loved Chelsa’s outfit choices for this session — one bright and flowery and the other a gorgeous cream lace that looked so pretty at sunset. They also brought along a few things from the nursery that made for some special detail shots. Congratulations to these two! Can’t wait to meet Baby “R” for newborn photos!
