A few weeks ago, I met Audrey and Jeff in Charleston (yes, Charleston!) for a sunset maternity portrait session! These two were one of my first wedding couples in 2015 so I was thrilled when they asked if I would travel to South Carolina and capture their second pregnancy! I’ve loved watching this sweet couple grow their family, and over the years I’ve photographed their engagement, wedding, first pregnancy, and Luke’s newborn photos! The last time I saw Luke he was just two weeks old! Now he’s two years old and definitely a mover…he didn’t slow down for one minute during our session. He loved the water and sand at the beach and was so happy splashing around at the water’s edge with dad. And the expecting mama looked gorgeous in her baby blue dress. I just love the way her ruffles and hair are blowing in the wind! Congratulations to Audrey and Jeff on Baby #2! And if you’d like to take a walk down memory lane, here are the links to their engagement, wedding, and first maternity session!
On May 11th, Sara and Rob married in a casual ceremony at their neighborhood park and celebrated with a courtyard reception at Gallery O on H! There were so many unique and memorable moments on their wedding day from the first look in front of their apartment building to walking to their ceremony in Lincoln Park with family in tow and then departing in style on scooters! Yes, scooters! One of my favorite detail shots of the day is the lineup of SPIN scooters on East Capitol Street! And the details didn’t stop there! Sara designed a serpentine table arrangement for her reception with peonies in petite rectangular boxes winding down the tables. They even donated the flowers to Petals of Hope, a wonderful organization that picks up event flowers and delivers them to nursing homes! How awesome!
I really enjoyed getting to know this sweet couple over the last few months. Sara and Rob met through a friend, got engaged last summer, and share my love of coffee, travel, and recycling! In our first meeting, it felt like we did a tour of DC by coffeehouse and then went around the world by countries traveled. And then, at the gallery walk-thru, Sara said something along the lines of “I just want to review the recycling plan.” I just smiled because as my husband will tell you the recycling plan in our house is constantly updated by yours truly. 🙂 Sara and Rob not only chose compostable plates for the reception, but they requested a shot of the recycling station. 🙂
I’m so happy to have met these two (shout-out to Jessica!) and truly honored to have been part of their day! Congratulations to Sara + Rob!!!

In April, I hiked up to Stony Man Summit in Shenandoah National Park with Rachel and Brandon for their anniversary portrait session! These two lovebirds celebrate their fourth anniversary later this month so they put on their wedding attire and hit the trail in paisley and lace! The weather was perfect — 70 degrees, clear skies, and incredible colors over the valley as the sun went down.
Rachel and I are big planners when it comes to our hiking dates and mountaintop photo ops. We discussed options like putting her dress on at the trailhead or waiting until we reached the summit to make it easier for her to walk, and exchanged way too many texts about flower crowns. So, when I walked into Skyland, I was quite surprised to see her already dressed and ready to go with hiking boots under her dress! It was quite a scene: I was gasping at seeing her in her wedding dress once again and the barista was ooing, ahhing, and shouting “congratulations” from behind the coffee bar! We joked that it was their wedding day throughout the session and even toasted with champagne!
I’m so happy for these two as they celebrate another year as Mr + Mrs! And I’m very grateful for yet another opportunity to photograph one of my first wedding couples! These two have been with me since the beginning five years ago! Happy Anniversary, B+R!
Late last month, I met Megan and Hayes for a maternity portrait session in the mountain town of Harper’s Ferry. Despite the crisp morning air (read: cold, windy, goosebumps), we walked along the water’s edge catching up on work and school and talking nurseries and baby planning. Where do I start with these two?! First, Hayes is my cousin and these two trusted in me to photograph their wedding way back in 2014 (my first wedding ever)! I’ve also captured their engagement in the fields where they went to college, their adorable and lively foster girls who lived with them for a year, their rescued pet pigs, and now this special time as they await the arrival of their baby boy. I couldn’t be more excited for these two as they start this next adventure together! Congratulations! Can’t wait to meet your little one!
